Large- Scale Graphene Production vs. Useful Production

A research team at Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) claim to have created continuous sheets of graphene (1 layer thick) using the CVD process. They also claim to have been able to produce graphene fibers. You can read the research article here.

Though this type of production of graphene is actually not as rare as one might think. The real breakthroughs that graphene investors need to pay attention to is when useful graphene is created in a cost effective manner.

The graphene industry is full of buzz. There are new graphene developments every month. Whether it is new findings from an Ivy League research lab or a graphene company issuing its initial public offering. It is all very exciting. But it is also all very confusing. So how do you know which graphene stocks you should buy? Here are some tips for investing in graphene:

It is important to find a graphene company that has decided what direction it wants to go. Does the company have focus? It can be difficult for a company to “be everything to everyone.” Generally good companies develop a strategy which is clear on what product, niche, geography, and value proposition they plan to focus on. Two weeks have passed since I last looked at the fantasy investments in graphene and diamond. For those that don’t remember or weren’t paying attention, an imaginary sum of £1000 and $1000 was invested in two companies, Paragon Diamonds and CVD equipment.
