Graphene Company Stock Pick: Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT NYSE)

Graphene Company: Lockheed Martin Corporation

Stock Symbol: LMT listed on the NYSE

Corporate Profile: Lockheed Martin is a United States and international aerospace, defense, security and advanced technology corporation. The current entity was formed with the 1995 merge between the Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta. As an advanced technology corporation, Lockheed Martin holds thousands of advanced future looking patents, including patents in graphene application and production.

Graphene Patent: Lockheed Martin holds rights to a patented method of producing graphene by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (US 20140255621 A1).

Abstract of the graphene production patent: Production of large volumes of graphene for commercial use has proven to be difficult due to scalability problems. Plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition of graphene would solve some of these problems. Production of graphene by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition could include: providing a metal surface and a carbonaceous electrode, at least a portion of the metal surface being located close to the carbonaceous electrode with a gap defined there between; applying a potential between the metal substrate and the carbonaceous electrode; exciting a plasma-forming gas in the gap between the metal substrate and the carbonaceous electrode in the presence of the applied potential, thereby forming a plasma; ablating a reactive carbon species from the carbonaceous electrode in the presence of the plasma; and growing graphene on the metal substrate from the reactive carbon species.

Lockheed Martin is a very established and large company, with a main focus on the aerospace and defense industry. Graphene has major applications in their industry, and that is why it is no surprise the company has purchase rights to advanced and scalable production methods for graphene. If Lockheed Martin or any other graphene company introduces scalability for graphene production, just imagine the applications Lockheed Martin could have within its aerospace and defense products. This would result in major returns to graphene investors and general investors alike.
